Student project. Everett Community College was not a client and did not commission this work. Coursework, Everett Community College — Vibrations art exhibitions.
The Vibrations series was made for the annual art exhibitions at Everett Community College, where students showed work alongside visiting artists. Each piece was printed large and hung as a standalone statement.
Troy Arisen was the piece that started it all — a man with a guitar, built from layered photography and digital painting in Photoshop. It earned me a spot in the Vibrations Magazine student art spotlight issue, which was the first time my work was published.
The process
Every piece in the series started as photography — my own shots, taken around campus and in the surrounding area. I brought them into Photoshop and built them up in layers: textures, gradients, hand-painted masks, and composited elements that didn't belong to the original frames. The goal was to make something that read as a painting from across the room but revealed its photographic bones up close.
Vibrations I is the quietest piece in the series. It leans on atmosphere — depth, light, negative space — rather than density.
Vibrations III goes darker. The palette shifts, the textures get heavier, and the composition pulls inward.
