Flights Pub was a live music bar at 7601 Evergreen Way in Everett. The name works two ways — beer flights and dart flights — and the room ran on bands, a darts league, and a kitchen. Between late 2012 and early 2014 I handled the logo, a brand banner, a show poster, and a phased rebuild of the website.
The logo came out of the backline. A pub built around live music already has a visual language sitting on its own stage, so instead of reaching for a beer glass or a dart, I drew the mark as an amplifier head. I worked from real cabinets — a Blackstar HT Stage 100 for the proportions, a Blackstar ID for the way a manufacturer wordmark sits on the grille, and an Orange TH30 for the color. The pub name went where the badge goes, knocked out of the grille in a rounded geometric sans, with the carry handle, corner brackets, and a row of knobs drawn in underneath. It reads as an amp at a glance and as a sign from across the parking lot.
The banner extended the mark into a horizontal lockup for the site header and social covers, adding "Music, Food, Spirits" in a loose connected script and setting the whole thing on the orange pulled from the Orange cabinet. The script was a deliberate counterweight. The amp is all hard edges and geometry, and the tagline needed to soften it enough to read as hospitality rather than gear.
The website was the largest piece of the engagement. I bid it in October 2012 as a WordPress rebuild on the PageLines framework and delivered phase one in June 2013. The existing site had real problems: a broken calendar, a booking form that silently failed to send, a contact page with a redundant email table, and dead links throughout. I rebuilt the booking form from scratch, replaced the broken calendar with a linked ReverbNation feed and a map, and cut the contact page down to usable location and contact information. On the home page I remade the slider from the existing picture library, added a promotional highlight to the sidebar, and wired in the pub's Brown Paper Tickets account so the next featured show and its ticket link surfaced without anyone editing a page. Four unfinished pages — Darts, Menu, VIP, and the merch shop — I pulled down rather than ship them half-built.
I bid phase two at $2,100 to finish the site with five more pages: darts, schedule, prizes and teams, gallery, and food and beer. The client came back on price and I revised it to $1,500 in June 2013. That second phase never ran, so the site stayed at the phase one build.
The last piece was a poster. On January 24, 2014 the pub ran a birthday show for Mischa Kianne and Polecat Kelley with Witchburn and Zero Down and a Brother Jack reunion. I composited it from band-supplied assets — the hero image is Zero Down's own album art for Looking to Start a Riot — and built the type treatment, hierarchy, and layout around them, with the amp-head logo anchoring the top left. It had to do the ordinary work a show poster does: name the bands in billing order, and put the cover price, the age limit, the door time, and the address where someone scanning it on a wall would actually find them.
